Shout Out to the Wedding Vendors!

Edmonton Edmonton Made wedding Wedding Planning

Celebrating my first anniversary seemed like the perfect time to give a shoutout to some of the exceptional wedding vendors I was lucky to have worked with. Edmonton is truly spoiled by some incredible wedding and event vendors! They help to create magical moments for their clients and bring creative dreams to life.

When planning my wedding in 2019, and then having to postpone and replan in 2020, I was so glad to work with fellow small business owners. So many of them are companies and people I have admired through Instagram for years! It was great to gather a team of truly skilled people that helped create two perfect days for us to celebrate our next chapter.

If you're planning a wedding, or any celebration, hopefully you will find some inspiration from the list of Edmonton businesses below.

And while this is a post about all the other amazing businesses here in Edmonton, we would be foolish not to remind you that your favourite local chocolate company (that's us!) offers customizable wedding favours. The feedback has been unanimous - guests love enjoying delicious chocolate! Find out more about our wedding and event favours here.

Photographer: Sarah Mavro

I knew of Sarah's work from when she photographed a friend's wedding a few years ago. She's amazing to work with and not only captured both our wedding days but also our engagement photos! In addition to her stunning photos she helped guide us on how to get the perfect pose and everyone smiling without looking forced or awkward. Check out her new work with YEG Equestrian here and enjoy the small selection of beautiful photos included in this blog that she perfectly captured.

Videographer: Plaid Collar Films

A videographer was one of the last things we booked when originally planning. It was something I was torn with needing and not sure how much we would re-watch after that initial excitement. I am SO glad to have moved forward with booking Kim and Chris when everything happened in 2020! Not only did they perfectly capture both of our celebrations, it made it so much easier to share the special moments with those who couldn't attend in-person. You may recognize Kim from her work with Botaniful's IG Lives and now with CTV Morning, and together with her husband Chris they capture perfectly re-watchable love stories.

You can watch Rebecca & Sam's wedding video here.

Music is an integral part in setting the mood for your celebration. We opted for live musicians to be part of both our celebrations and they both added so much to the atmosphere of the day. We scaled back from having a full band to including instrumental music from Marc during our ceremony in May as well as at our reception in October.

Martin Kerr gave a fantastic mini-concert to guests ahead of our ceremony in October as well as performing throughout. You can also book Martin for a driveway concert! What a fun way to change up your evening entertainment!

Floral: FaBLOOMosity

I've been a fan of FaBLOOMosity for years and it was such a fun experience to work with them on the florals for my wedding! They perfectly adapted original visions to fit our intimate backyard celebration in May and the ceremony and reception in October. With our ceremonies being at such different times of year the team knocked it out of the park with the florals they created! If having a specific type of floral is important to you (it was for me, hello peonies!) definitely work with an experienced florist who can help advise which varieties are in season when to help you maximize your floral budget.

Catering: A Cappella Catering

Our reception in October had a complete venue change due to the pandemic and we moved to the church hall where our ceremony was. The change in venue also meant that we had to source our own catering. In stepped A Cappella Catering! Their plated menus were the perfect fit and they were exceptional at handling all of our guests dietary restrictions.

Dessert: Milk & Cookies

Milk & Cookies makes some of the BEST sugar cookies I've ever had, and they do gluten-free! Sharing fun treats with our guests that could be safely shared in individual portions was easy when it came to Milk & Cookies. We opted to have a small cake in May for us and offered our guests individually packaged cupcakes and cookies. It worked out perfectly and everyone was happy to not share!

Dress: Novelle Bridal

Shopping for your wedding outfit can be intimidating or overwhelming but the team at Novelle, especially Julia, made it a perfect dream shopping experience! I went in open minded but did have one dress in mind I really wanted to try. Julia made sure that it wasn't the first one I tried on and that I tried on a variety of styles to make sure I truly found the one. She helped to guide the appointment without injecting any pressure and helped to set the stage for me to find the perfect dress. It was such a fun and stress free experience!

Suits: Derks Formals

Family owned and an Edmonton staple for over 30 years! To keep my husband and his groomsmen stylish we went to the experts at Derks Formals. They helped ensure that every member of the wedding party was looking their best!

After spotting some custom jackets at wedding shows and on Pinterest it seemed like the perfect excuse to add another dose of my favourite flower to the special day. Thanks to Amelia at Wink Ink Designs, this vision came to life in the perfect way! In addition to custom pieces, she also offers rentals on signage and jackets to give that perfect personal touch and charm that calligraphy has. I also had Amelia paint a peony on the purse I used at our October ceremony too!

Makeup: Janna from Behind the Blush

In May, makeup services were still not allowed and the thought of doing the makeup solo felt pretty daunting. Janna went above and beyond in sourcing a full list of products and writing the easiest and most detailed tutorial. After a practice round Maryanne and I felt ready to tackle our makeup the morning of the wedding. The dedication she showed to helping in a somewhat unconventional way was so appreciated! We were so lucky though that in October she was able to come do the entire bridal party's makeup!

Hair: House of Tin

We all know how attached we get to our hairstylists! Tin has been looking out for my hair for years now and helped to achieve that perfect wedding look for me and the bridesmaids in October. If you're looking for an exceptional colourist be sure to check her out! She also recently launched a coaching business Shear Rebels.

Printing: Nexgen Grafix's

Long before there was wedding planning, Nexgen Grafix was our printer of choice. For the company, they've helped with everything from chocolate bar labels to tackling the daunting task of designing our very first advent calendar! The team has always been incredible to work with and I knew they would do a great job when it came to invitations. The took incredible care in printing my invitation designs and helping pull everything together. If you're looking for a local printer to help with pretty much anything make sure to give them a call!

Rentals: Infinite Event Rentals

There are so many elements to your wedding decor and working with a trusted supplier is a must! No one wants to stress about the delivery of tables or chairs day of. Sheldon and the team at Infinite Event Rentals were so accommodating when our plans started shifting in February 2020, and we are grateful to have had such a reliable team to work with to transform our celebration spaces.

Keepsakes: I love the moon

One of the special touches we included in our wedding was a custom illustration by i love the moon. Her adorable and delightful portraits are perfect in place of a cake topper, as a decor piece on a welcome table, and as art in your home. We also used a digital file of ours on our programs. So many ways to include such a special piece!
